Who issues apostilles in Luxembourg?
Luxembourg apostilles are issued by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. A document is always apostilled in the country that issued it: a Portuguese birth certificate needs a Portuguese apostille, not a Luxembourg one. We organise both cases.
When an apostille is not needed
Since 2019, EU Regulation 2016/1191 exempts certain public documents circulating between EU countries, such as birth and marriage certificates, from the apostille. Some authorities still ask for one out of habit. We check what is actually required before you pay for a step you may not need.

Frequent questions
Does the apostille go on the original or on the translation?
It depends on the country and the authority. Often the original is apostilled first, then translated. Some countries also want the translation apostilled. We confirm the order before starting.
My destination country has not signed the Apostille Convention. What now?
The document then needs a consular legalisation instead. Our legalisation service covers the ministry and the embassy or consulate.
Do I need to come to Luxembourg?
No. You can send us your documents by post and we return them apostilled.
